Bike Safety: Pre-Ride Checklist

1: FIT

Make sure your bike is a good fit. On most Electra bikes, you’ll feel the most comfortable when your saddle is adjusted to just below hip height. This gives you proper leg extension while pedaling and the ability to plant your feet flat on the ground without leaving the saddle.

2: INSPECT

Give your bike an inspection. Tires inflated? Check. Brakes working? Check. Looking rad? No brainer.

3: WEAR A HELMET

Always go with a helmet. Keep it snug and fastened. Helmets work best when they stay on your head.

4: WARDROBE CHECK

What are you wearing? Fashion can serve function too and visibility is key with bright colors and reflectivity. Make sure shoes are tied and your right pant leg is cuffed or protected from the chain and crank.

5: BE VISIBLE

Make sure your bike has reflectors as well as front and rear lights to run both during the day and at night. See and be seen.

6: PLAN AHEAD

Before you go, be sure to plan your route. Don't be distracted by looking for directions on your phone. And check the weather for rain, extreme heat, locust swarms, etc...

7: FIX A FLAT 101

Consider carrying a patch kit and learn the basics of fixing a flat. You’ll need a tire lever, spare tube, wrench, patch kit, and tire pump. Every ride needs a hero.

8: ALWAYS BE PREPARED

Wear sunscreen and bring water. That’s just good life advice.

9: E-BIKE BATTERY CHECK

For you e-bike riders out there, this last step is for you. Check your battery charge before you go. While pedaling home is always an option, not running out of battery is more fun.
