Electric bikes bring an amazing amount of convenience and fun to your life – but are you getting the most out of your battery or even using it properly? Ik Laad Accuraat has developed a simple guide with ten best practices for e-bike battery use, which covers topics like safe charging and extending a battery’s life. Check it out here!

1. Read the manual before the first charge to learn the best practices for your specific battery.

2. Use only the supplied and recommended charger. Certain chargers can damage your battery, even if they have the same specifications as the original.

3. Remove your battery from the charger when it’s full. This extends the life of your battery.

4. Don’t expose your battery and charger to extreme hot or cold temperatures. Charge and store it at room temperature.

5. Even if you don’t use your battery often, you should still charge it at least once every three months. A lithium-ion battery slowly loses its charge and the battery can be damaged if the voltage is too low.

6. If your battery has been dropped, damaged or deformed, don’t store it indoors. Contact your retailer for a replacement.

7. It’s recommended to have smoke detectors in the room where you’re charging your battery.

8. Always have your battery serviced by an expert. Don’t open it or try to repair it yourself. Instead, contact a Trek retailer for help.

9. When you’re charging your battery, be sure to place it on a free, stable, non-combustible surface.

10. Charge your battery during the day while you’re nearby in the event something unexpected occurs during the charging process.
